Is NHL 23 Cross-Platform?

Is NHL 23 Cross-Platform?

Absolutely, but there are some limitations. For the first time in franchise history, NHL 23 offers cross-platform compatibility, though with some restrictions.

Cross-platform matchmaking in NHL 23 allows players on the same generation of consoles to compete against each other.

This means that PS4 players can match up with Xbox One players, and Xbox Series X|S players can face off against PS5 players.

However, while this feature enables players to compete against each other in online modes, it does not allow them to invite friends or others from different consoles to join their game mode and play together as a team.

EA has hinted that they are working to add more crossplay features in future NHL titles.

Cross-platform matchmaking was not available at launch on October 14th. Instead, NHL 23 introduced these new features through a four-phase process last week.

Phase 1, launched on November 17th, introduced crossplay modes for ‘HUT Rush’ and ‘Ones Eliminator.’

This was followed by Phase 2 on November 21st, which added ‘6v6 EASHL’ and ‘3v3 Drop-In’ modes. 

Phase 3 occurred on November 23rd, featuring the debuts of ‘HUT Champs,’ ‘6v6 Drop-In,’ ‘3v3 EASHL,’ and ‘Threes Eliminator.’

The final phase, Phase 4, is set for Monday, November 28th, and will bring ‘HUT Rivals.’

Leaderboards are kept separate between consoles, and the Hockey Ultimate Team auction house remains distinct across platforms. 

However, the increased size of matchmaking pools in both HUT and World of Chel will reduce wait times for finding opponents, which is a significant improvement for the NHL 23 community.

EA Sports has acknowledged the challenges of merging all players onto a unified server for NHL 23.
